Our Mission
Bernie’s Buddies is a primarily dog and cat rescue and advocate that works in Huntington, WV, to help keep animals from euthanasia. Even though we are primarily dog and cat, we are not species specific. We will take in and help rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, ferrets, hedge hoods, some birds, and some reptiles. We also take in a limited number of strays. In addition, we locally adopt or advocate from other rescues in other states.

Bernie’s Buddies always looks for fosters, dog walkers, and volunteers to participate in local puppy training. You can also donate money or purchase food from our Amazon wish list. We also accept newspapers, blankets, leashes, and collars.

Bernie’s Buddies Rescue and Advocates has an Amazon WishList and a Chewy WishList for our animals in boarding and foster homes. This list includes regular food and veterinarian diets for those animals on restrictive diets for medical purposes. There are also toys and other needs for our animals. When you order off the list, it will be automatically shipped to Animal Care Clinic.

Some of the shirts we designed for campaigns and holidays are all on the Bonfire store website. If you would like any of our shirts, they are found at the link below.
We also sell bubblegum-beaded dog necklaces on Etsy, and 100% of the proceeds go toward our medical bills and supplies.

What is a virtual foster?
Once you choose an animal to foster, we will send you a packet of information. It's a simple and joyful process. All you have to do is share your foster's information on your social media accounts and tag our rescue. We will send you pictures, bios, and fun facts about your foster, allowing you to share their journey with your followers. When you share your foster's information, remember to share the links to their adoption application, Amazon Wishlist, and more to spread the word about their availability. Feel free to ask to spend time with your virtual foster and take pictures with them.
What is the purpose of a virtual foster?
The goal is to get these pets out in the public eye and find their forever homes. Some people may only be looking to adopt once they see the perfect animal for them, and who knows, they may find them on your page. Our post can only be seen by so many people.
What are the guidelines?
As a reminder, all adoptions are approved through our rescue, and anyone interested in an animal will need to fill out an application and set up a meet-and-greet with our organization. Below is a link to our Linktree account, which has all our main links. We will also send you a link to your foster's specific Amazon Wishlist.

Bernie's Buddies Community Cats. We have two different sets of Community cats or TNVR colonies. One of our colonies is located in downtown Huntington, and the other is in East Lynn. Both colonies are fed, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for medical problems if needed, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, as well as on flea prevention. They are also microchipped and ear-tipped. Both colonies have multiple caregivers and feeders, but both are checked on quite often by either our director or a long-term volunteer; both work in the veterinary medicine field.
Cats, Comics, and Coupons Campaign is a joint effort between multiple businesses in Huntington, WV. Local shelters, rescue groups, the general public, and veterinary offices are busting at the seams and doing their best. These three businesses, The Inner Geek, Animal Care Clinic, and Bernie's Buddies Rescue, are trying to help ease the burden on our community. The staff at The Inner Geek has been fostering kittens and cats that have either been found or dumped; they have been asked to help. Those staff members adopt the kittens and cats they care for to the public. Animal Care Clinic offers a 25% discount for the alter surgery and pain meds. During the surgery, Bernie's Buddies Rescue will microchip each animal for $5, usually $45. There are also other coupons for veterinary care in the booklet that the new owners receive.

Four different raffles are going on during this extravaganza. When you purchase your tickets, please specify which raffle you would like to put your tickets in. In Venmo and PayPal, put the raffle name in the memo on Facebook. Please send us a private message with your information and the raffle you want to enter. Facebook doesn't always tell us who the donor is.
